A beloved genre for me, the soundtrack to many a late-night study session. Part of the larger shit-trap, and thus larger phonk genre. There's a lot of confliction on what is phonk and what gets to be classified as such. What used to be called phonk has been bit overtaken conceptually by the tiktok phonk tween boy gym goers with neon anime profile pictures (which is actuall usually leaning heavier into the russian house elements (cowbell)). Very similar situation to what happened to dubstep really. But beyond the oversaturation there's what I find to be very fun and interesting stuff going on. On the specific brasiliero bit- Brazilian soft power is the new Korean soft power. Mark my words. but beyond that, just a wealth of good samples to prevent an otherwise very same-y genre from being too same-y. If I had to really pinpoint exactly who I wanted to talk about with this episode, it's doomshop, the record label that produced what I would call key shittrap. Overall, a beautiful demonstration of the highs and lows of soundcloud.
